On Thursday, the CDC announced new guidance on mask-wearing for fully vaccinated individuals. After reviewing these recommendations, Governor Cooper and the NCDHHS lifted the mask mandate in indoor spaces for those who are fully vaccinated. Advent has aligned our health and safety policies with those of the CDC and NCDHHS and we will continue to do so.

Beginning Tuesday May 18th masks are required in all unenclosed spaces within Advent except for individuals who have been fully vaccinated. You are not considered fully vaccinated until two weeks after your final vaccine shot. We are trusting each of you to protect yourselves and your fellow coworkers by wearing a mask if you are not fully vaccinated and continuing to practice social distancing.

Over this past year we have witnessed Advent members taking action to ensure the safety of the community by staying home when sick, wearing a mask, and physically distancing. Thank you. We want to encourage the continuation of this culture of community care. Thanks to the health precautions we've also seen a national decrease in the flu and common cold. We want to encourage anyone experiencing cold, flu, or severe allergy symptoms to wear a mask and stay home when possible. We also want to remind everyone that there are a number of reasons folks will continue to wear masks and judgmental comments or actions won't be tolerated. If you have feedback on how Advent can be more accessible, inclusive, and equitable, please let us know at the end of our demographics survey.

Advent strives to provide space where all members can feel comfortable. To accommodate those who do not wish to work in a maskless environment, we are still requiring masks in the Advent Library when more than one person is present. Additionally, Advent staff will continue to require masks for touring guests.

In recognition of the work we have all done to create a safer community, we are also making a few other changes to our policy. Our website and physical signage will be updated to reflect our new policy by the end of the week.
  • Temperature checks are no longer required. The thermometers will remain for those who wish to check themselves or their guests.
  • The reusable dishes and towels will be available again starting next Tuesday (5/25). The single use items will continue to be available. Members can once again store their own dishes, coffee makers, etc. in the Advent kitchens.
  • Members can get a free 12 oz cup of drip coffee, tea, or piece of fruit everyday from Paper Plane, plus a free 12 oz cup of coffee for a guest once per week.
  • Our meeting room capacities will remain the same to allow for 6ft social distancing.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available to everyone 12 years or older. To find a vaccination site near you, visit Vaccines.gov or contact Advent staff. While the mask mandate has been lifted in most locations, masks are still required in childcare and healthcare settings, public transportation, congregate settings, and in many private businesses. Be sure to check the mask policy of each business before visiting. While you may know you are vaccinated, the customer service workers who will be assisting you do not. Consider wearing a mask for the comfort of those who have to interact with many different people throughout the day.

Thank you for your cooperation and dedication to our community!
